  • Trail Rating: Easy to Moderate – The trail is dog-friendly and kid-friendly – however
  • Please note: The trail consists of 205 steps cut into the side of the hill – which can be quite strenuous. Be prepared to carry younger children.
  • The trail is not accessible to strollers or wheelchairs.
  • Length of Trail: Approx. 0.6 miles

From Sunrise Point

Your reward for climbing all those stairs? A spectacular view of the city of Custer and the surrounding forests.

From Big Rock Observation Point

Once you reach the top, you will be treated to 360-degree views of the valley below and the surrounding mountain peaks: Mount Coolidge Fire Lookout, Buckhorn Mountain, The Needles, Black Elk Peak, and Calamity Peak. An interactive display helps you identify the peaks in the distance.

Unexpected Surprise:

As you hike along The Custer Skywalk Nature Trail – don’t be alarmed to see frisbees flying past the trees.

There is a spectacular disc golf course that runs congruent to The Custer Skywalk Nature Trail.

Meet “Chief” and “George”

Two sculptures stand on either side of the Custer Skywalk Trailhead.

Sculpted by: Lloyd Kreitz Donated to the City of Custer by: Lloyd and Webster Kreitz – 1998

Both figures have wings – representing the One True Spirit found in all living things – allowing for hope, forgiveness, peace, and joy.
