The ghost town of Spokane in South Dakota, located in the Black Hills near Custer, was established in 1890 as a mining town. It flourished briefly due to mining: primarily gold and silver.

The town featured essential structures like a school, general store, and homes but was abandoned by the mid-20th century due to the mines’ dwindling productivity.

Today, Spokane is a ghost town with remnants like the decaying schoolhouse and residential structures, offering a glimpse into its historic past and the boom-and-bust cycle that characterized many such towns across the American West.
